Student Wellbeing Officer
At Lakelands Primary School, we are fortunate to have Nicole Ellis as our Student Wellbeing Officer. Nicole is employed by Choyces and funded through the Department of Education’s Chaplaincy/Student Wellbeing Officer Program. This program is inclusive, non-discriminatory, and focused on providing meaningful support to our school community.
Nicole works at our school Tuesdays and Fridays, located in the Wellbeing Centre, or the student services office.
As a Student Wellbeing Officer, Nicole can provide valuable short-term support to students, staff, and families. She is available to assist with a range of issues, including:
Emotional Support
- Anxiety, stress, or overwhelm
- Low self-esteem or confidence issues
- Emotional regulation and coping strategies
- Grief, loss, or bereavement
Social Support
- Friendship difficulties or social isolation
- Peer pressure or bullying concerns
- Conflict resolution between students
- Building positive relationships
Family Support
- Family breakdown or separation
- Changes in home life impacting the student
- Linking families with community resources
School Engagement
- School refusal or attendance concerns
- Transition support (starting school, moving schools, or changing year levels)
General Wellbeing
- Promoting healthy routines (sleep, nutrition, screen time)
- Support with resilience and coping skills
- Encouraging positive behaviour and emotional development
Nicole supports the wellbeing of our school community by offering mentoring, guidance, and a caring ear. Her role also includes:
- Facilitating wellbeing programs and initiatives
- Connecting the school community with local services and support agencies
- Having one-on-one conversations—formal or informal—with students, staff, and families to discuss any issues that matter to them
- Linking families to external on going supports.
