Our School Values
At Lakelands Primary School, our Values Program is central to the way we learn, work and grow together.
Our five core values — Leadership, Courage, Responsibility, Respect and Co-operation — provide a shared language for positive behaviour, strong relationships and personal growth. They are explicitly taught, modelled and celebrated across the school, helping students understand what it means to make positive choices and contribute meaningfully to their community.
Through our commitment to Inspiring Growth, we support every student to develop the confidence, character and skills needed to reach their potential.
Leadership
We lead by example, make positive choices and encourage others to do their best. Our staff, students and families understand that leadership can be demonstrated through everyday actions, kindness and a willingness to help others.
Courage
We stand up for what is right and have the confidence to make thoughtful decisions. We persevere through challenges, learn from mistakes and approach new experiences with a positive attitude.
Responsibility
We take responsibility for our actions, learning and choices. We care for ourselves and others, look after personal and school property, and take pride in our environment.
Respect
We treat ourselves and others with kindness, fairness and consideration, regardless of background, beliefs or differences. We value mateship, inclusion, good sportsmanship and care for the world around us.
Co-operation
We work together, include others and build positive relationships. We listen to different perspectives, contribute to shared goals and encourage everyone to participate.
Bringing Our Values to Life
Our Values Program is embedded throughout classroom learning, playground interactions, assemblies and whole-school activities.
Students from Pre-primary to Year 6 participate in regular Values assemblies, where each value is explored, discussed and celebrated. These assemblies provide an opportunity to recognise students who consistently demonstrate positive choices and contribute to the wellbeing of others.
Teachers also reinforce the values through everyday classroom conversations, explicit teaching and positive acknowledgement. When students consistently demonstrate a particular value, they may receive a Values certificate in recognition of their efforts.
In the playground, staff acknowledge students who display the school values by awarding faction tokens. These tokens contribute to faction totals and are also entered into regular individual prize draws. At the end of each term, the winning faction is celebrated with a special reward.
These systems ensure that positive behaviour is noticed, encouraged and celebrated across all areas of the school.
Values Bands
Throughout their primary school journey, students work towards earning four Values bands:
Years 1–2: Bronze Band
Years 3–4: Silver Band
Years 5–6: Gold Band
Year 6: Lakelands Legend Band
To earn a band, students must receive a certificate for each of the five school values. Certificates are awarded when a student has consistently demonstrated a particular value on five or more occasions.
Students may earn their certificates in any order and at a pace that reflects their individual development. Once a student has earned a band, they begin working towards the next level.
Values bands are presented at block assemblies, held on a Friday, with students also acknowledged at the following junior or senior assembly. These presentations are an important opportunity to celebrate students who consistently demonstrate the qualities we value as a school community.
Developing Citizens of the Future
The purpose of our Values Program is not simply to recognise positive behaviour, but to help students develop the qualities they will carry with them beyond primary school.
By explicitly teaching and celebrating Leadership, Courage, Responsibility, Respect and Co-operation, we aim to develop confident, compassionate and responsible young people who are prepared to make a positive contribution to their school, their community and their future.
